Cost verdict: Omnisend Standard has the lower verified email-only monthly price in the three matched-contact scenarios below, and a higher published send allowance. That does not make every Omnisend bundle cheaper: Pro floors, country-specific SMS, selected add-ons and required capabilities can change the bill. A contact count alone is not a complete quote.

Intent, verification and billing assumptions

This GPP owner answers what the same ecommerce audience and messaging workload costs. AMF's Klaviyo, Omnisend and Mailchimp workflow comparison remains the platform-fit owner; we do not duplicate its general feature ranking. This is first-party price-selector research, verified October 8, 2026, not a deliverability or revenue-uplift test.

The table uses USD, ordinary monthly billing, email only, no SMS, no tax and no optional data/service/AI products. Klaviyo's displayed first-month $19 discount for its 500-profile offer is excluded from the ongoing price. Omnisend's three-month 30% upfront promotion is switched off. A short prepaid introduction is not an annual subscription discount or a guaranteed renewal.

Audience breakpointSame monthly workloadKlaviyo Email / allowanceOmnisend Standard / allowance12 unchanged monthly bills
500 billable recipients5,000 emails$20 / 5,000 sends$16 / 6,000 sends$240 vs $192
2,500 billable recipients25,000 emails$60 / 25,000 sends$44 / 30,000 sends$720 vs $528
5,000 billable recipients50,000 emails$100 / 50,000 sends$81 / 60,000 sends$1,200 vs $972

At those stated workloads, both email plans meet the numerical allowance. Monthly differences are $4, $16 and $19 respectively. These audience sizes are actual observed price-selector breakpoints, not separate thin SEO pages. Twelve-month totals hold the contact band, sends and prices constant; they are not an annual-contract quote and do not assume your list stays unchanged.

Billable contacts are not simply subscribers in a CSV

Klaviyo bills its email package around active profiles and the selected send allowance. Omnisend counts subscribers and non-subscribers who receive messages through its workflows, rather than just the size of a newsletter segment. Suppression, consent and channel-specific eligibility must follow each provider's rules. Do not inflate or reduce one side's bill by using different definitions of the same customer base.

Start with an export of your permitted active audience, the current billing view and the last full month's campaigns and automations. Deduplicate real people according to the actual platform identity rules, not a spreadsheet assumption that every email and telephone number is a different customer. An imported historical profile can affect eligibility even if it receives no newsletter. Verify the supplier's billing classification before assuming it is free storage.

Keep suppressed contacts and consent records intact when migrating. Reducing a bill is not a reason to restore opted-out people to a sendable list or delete records needed to honor their preferences. A store may have 5,000 database records but a different billable count in each product. The table deliberately assumes the same qualifying billable count; your actual quote can differ after that reconciliation.

Send volume can move the winner or the eligible plan

Klaviyo's observed paid Email bands in this range allow ten sends per profile per month. Omnisend Standard advertises twelve times the selected list size. A send is a delivered-attempt billing unit under the supplier's current terms, not one campaign regardless of recipients. Include automation sends, not just the weekly newsletter. One daily automation can consume much of the allowance before a campaign is sent.

At 2,500 recipients and 30,000 monthly emails, the observed $60 Klaviyo band no longer meets the modeled send requirement, while Omnisend Standard's $44 band does. Do not publish a made-up per-email overage to make Klaviyo fit. Obtain its eligible send upgrade or flexible-plan quote. At 5,000 and 60,000 sends, the same distinction applies: the observed $100 Klaviyo band is a 50,000-send package.

Omnisend Pro shows $59/month with a 2,500-contact floor and $90/month at 5,000 contacts in the current monthly selector. It advertises unlimited email, subject to the applicable fair-use and contract conditions; that is not permission to send unconsented mail or an unconditional guarantee of arbitrary throughput. At 500 recipients, buying Pro can cost $59 even though Standard is $16. Do not quote Pro's $59 as a 500-contact email minimum.

SMS: model the destination and segments, not the subscriber count

SMS/MMS costs are separate from email sends. Omnisend's current public US calculator shows a $50/month messaging bundle for approximately 5,882 SMS at $0.0085 per SMS; its “from $0.007” headline is not the rate for that example. The destination selector was United States of America. Bundles, volume, carrier treatment and country change the applicable rate. Do not multiply $0.007 by every text in every country.

The current Klaviyo Marketing calculator separates Mobile messages and country/channel choices from Email. Its displayed US toll-free per-send description and carrier-fee footnote do not establish a universal all-in SMS rate. Obtain the same segment-volume quote in the selected country, including any carrier and registration charges. We do not label an incomplete public quote as an exact apples-to-apples total or reuse an old included-credit table as if it were current.

For an explicit 2,500-contact SMS scenario, use 25,000 email sends and 5,882 eligible US SMS segments. Omnisend Pro plus the observed $50 bundle is $59 + $50 = $109/month before other applicable charges. Klaviyo's comparison is $60 + its quoted all-in 5,882-segment messaging cost + any required add-ons. It costs less than $109 only if that remaining monthly amount is below $49. This is a useful quote threshold, not an invented Klaviyo messaging price.

At 5,000 contacts with the corresponding 50,000-email workload, Omnisend Pro plus that observed bundle is $90 + $50 = $140. Klaviyo starts from $100 for email, so its extra all-in messaging/add-on budget must be below $40 to beat that modeled total. The Pro email package may buy capacity you do not need; evaluate the Standard/SMS eligibility of the actual order instead of assuming all SMS use mandates one particular bundle.

A message longer than one segment, Unicode content, MMS, dedicated numbers or a different destination can consume different units and fees. The same number of shoppers does not establish the same messaging cost. Do not compare a US toll-free SMS with an international MMS or a different carrier class and call the difference a software saving. Confirm how unused monthly credits, bundle renewal and overages work before annualizing.

Free plans and plan floors

Both current free email offers cap the audience at 250 and monthly email sends at 500. That is roughly two whole-list sends before automations if every recipient is eligible. It does not mean 500 campaigns or free unlimited store messaging. Klaviyo currently describes a $5 mobile-message allowance in its free offer; this is not a universal fixed number of SMS. Omnisend's free channel availability and test credits need the actual signup terms, not an inferred recurring grant.

A store with 250 recipients and four whole-list campaigns already needs around 1,000 sends, before flows. Free therefore fails on send volume even if the contact count fits. At the other end, one extra billable profile over a paid band's cap can change the quote. Plan for peak active audience and cadence, not only the month's average. A free trial is an evaluation period, not a zero-cost operating plan.

Do not bury optional products in the email price

Klaviyo's current builder separately lists Composer, mobile messaging, Customer Hub, Social marketing, Reviews, service and data products. Selecting one can change the total without changing the email band. Omnisend's Standard and Pro advertise different AI/usage capabilities. Quote the exact required products; an Email-only table cannot establish the relative cost of two differently assembled customer-data stacks.

Use a purchase worksheet with a required/optional flag for every line: email band, send upgrade, SMS bundle, number/registration/carrier charges, optional AI products, implementation and support. Add external review or helpdesk software only if it remains necessary. Subtract a retired subscription only after its actual replacement is verified. An affiliate relationship does not make a broader bundle automatically better value.

Migration and renewal economics

First-year cost = monthly recurring eligible plan × operating months + messaging + one-time migration + overlapping old subscriptions. Retain separate columns for introductory cash paid and ongoing renewal. Omnisend's observed 500-contact introduction is $33.60 for three months versus $48 at ordinary monthly rates for those months. That does not turn the ongoing $16 rate into $11.20 forever.

Account for consent, suppressions, event mappings, product-feed compatibility and automation validation. A vendor's migration offer is not proof that every custom flow, attribution setting or historical report transfers unchanged. Run representative flows with permitted test data and compare reports without claiming revenue causality. AMF's workflow owner covers the functional shortlist; this page preserves the cost denominator.

When a higher bill can still be the eligible choice

The cheapest package is irrelevant if it cannot express required segments, store events, permissions or reporting. Document those capabilities independently, then compare the lowest eligible quote. An extra $19 monthly software difference at 5,000 contacts can be less than the labor of maintaining a workaround, but do not invent a labor saving or revenue uplift. Measure your own workflow before attributing a benefit.

For native-store email, Mailchimp or another provider as a control, use the same billable audience and channel requirements. Do not replace this comparison with a generic affiliate roundup. If your job is only a small newsletter with no ecommerce data dependencies, the alternatives set may be different; that is a different buying intent, not proof that either tool here is overpriced.

Buyer FAQ

Is Omnisend always cheaper?

No. It is lower for the three email-only monthly scenarios shown. SMS, Pro floors, extras and eligibility can change that. The same list size does not establish identical functionality.

Should I annualize the first-month offer?

No. Separate the promotion from the current ongoing rate and from any actual annual contract. Holding twelve ordinary monthly bills constant is a scenario, not a lock on renewal.

Can I compare the same number of SMS recipients?

Not without segments, destination, channel and carrier treatment. One recipient can receive multiple messages and each message can consume multiple segments. Get an all-in quote on the same units.

Does lower platform cost prove a better revenue result?

No. This research calculates bills and eligibility, not incremental sales or deliverability. Attribution dashboards and CPC are not evidence of causal revenue or affiliate earnings.
