The cost verdict: UptimeRobot packages monitor capacity and team features into tiers. Better Stack charges for responders and separately expands monitor and status-page capacity. A single on-call person with many monitors is not the same bill as three responders with ten monitors. Neither a five-minute free check nor a full log platform is automatically an equivalent substitute.

What this comparison owns

The question is the recurring bill for production uptime checks and human alert response. Technical installation belongs to AMT; this page does not prescribe agents, logging infrastructure or incident architecture. We checked first-party public prices on October 8, 2026. UptimeRobot rendered in EUR and Better Stack in USD. We retain those native currencies rather than manufacture a same-currency winner from an unspecified exchange rate.

Quoted figures exclude tax, negotiated discounts and temporary offers. Annual equivalents assume twelve months at the stated configuration. Monitor-count selections change UptimeRobot's quote, so the table records the selected/default capacity rather than assuming every plan has unlimited checks. Better Stack's responder is an on-call entitlement, not every colleague who can view a dashboard.

The normalized shopping list

Write down endpoints, required check interval, public status pages, people taking phone/SMS alerts, required history and reporting before asking for a price. HTTP uptime, heartbeat jobs, browser journeys and application logs are different products. A login flow requiring a scripted browser is not covered by a cheap HTTP ping merely because both appear on a monitoring vendor's site.

Selected public packageMonthly billingAnnual equivalent / monthKey budget boundary
UptimeRobot Solo, 10 monitors€10€960-second checks; 3 custom-domain status pages; 12-month retention
UptimeRobot Team, 100 monitors€41€3530-second checks; 3 team seats; 100 white-label status pages
UptimeRobot Scale, 200 monitors€77€6515-second checks; 5 team seats; unlimited status pages
Better Stack, 1 responder$34$2910 monitors/heartbeats and 1 status page; phone/SMS alert entitlement
Better Stack, additional 50 monitors$25$21Capacity sold in blocks, not $0.42 for one individual extra monitor
Better Stack, additional status page$15$12Added to responder and monitor charges

UptimeRobot lists a small included SMS/voice allowance on paid plans (10 to 20 on Solo, 30 on Team, 50 to 200 on Scale) with more purchasable separately; the package is not a guarantee of unlimited telephony. Better Stack advertises unlimited phone/SMS alerts on its responder offer and unlimited team members for collaboration. That does not turn all viewers into paid responders or remove the monitor/status-page add-ons. Countries, routing rules and the purchased order still need checking.

The 10, 60 and 100-monitor scenarios

RequirementUptimeRobot selected annual configurationBetter Stack annual-rate configurationWhat prevents a simplistic winner
10 monitors, 60-second maximum interval, 1 responder, 1 pageSolo €108/year; credits beyond any included SMS/voice allowance are extra$348/year for 1 responder, included 10 monitors/pageCurrency and phone/SMS entitlement differ
60 monitors, 30-second checks, 1 responder, 1 pageTeam 100-monitor selection €420/year, plus credits($29 + $21) × 12 = $600/yearTeam includes 3 seats; Better Stack has 1 paid responder
100 monitors, 30-second checks, 3 responders, 1 pageTeam €420/year; extra SMS/voice credits only if the included allowance is exceeded; confirm all 3 can fulfill the alert duty(3 × $29 + 2 × $21) × 12 = $1,548/yearResponder duties and alert channels must match
10 monitors, 1 responder, 3 separate status pagesSolo €108/year if its page customization and check interval suffice($29 + 2 × $12) × 12 = $636/yearA public page and a required white-label page are different qualifications

Better Stack formula for these scenarios: responders × $29 + ceil(max(0, monitors - 10) / 50) × $21 + max(0, status pages - 1) × $12 per month equivalent. The model assumes the pricing page's ten-monitor included workspace baseline, one included page and no negotiated package. Confirm any extra monitor allowance in your order before changing that assumption. It does not multiply included capacity by responders without explicit entitlement.

The block boundary matters: sixty monitors use one fifty-monitor expansion, while sixty-one need two under this baseline. A budget based on exact per-monitor division understates the bill at the boundary. At 100 monitors and one responder, the annual-rate total is $71/month equivalent, or $852/year. Adding two responders increases it by $58/month equivalent without adding endpoints. Reducing viewers is not the same saving as reducing the on-call roster.

On monthly billing, the 100-monitor/three-responder configuration is 3 × $34 + 2 × $25 = $152/month, or $1,824 over twelve unchanged months. UptimeRobot Team's monthly subscription is €41/month, or €492 over twelve unchanged months, before any purchased extra credits. Neither multiplication creates an annual cancellation right or accounts for a supplier's current tax treatment. Ask for the exact renewal and seat-reduction terms.

Check frequency changes eligibility

A five-minute monitor can miss an outage that starts and ends between probes. That is a sampling limitation, not an observed defect in either product. If the requirement is a maximum thirty-second scheduled interval, UptimeRobot Solo's sixty-second check is ineligible and its attractive €9 annual equivalent should not be compared as the solution. Team's thirty-second option is the selected tier in the middle scenarios.

Better Stack advertises checks down to thirty seconds. That is not proof of identical coverage, regional behavior or alert delay. Actual detection also depends on verification, incident rules, probe location and downstream notification. A fifteen-second requirement changes the decision again: the UptimeRobot Scale reference is relevant, while Better Stack needs an explicit quote or product confirmation rather than an assumed faster check.

An HTTP endpoint responding successfully is not necessarily a successful checkout. Browser monitoring runs scripted journeys and consumes browser execution resources. Better Stack lists Playwright browser monitoring separately at $1 per 100 minutes; that metering does not belong silently inside a responder seat. Convert journey duration, schedule and retries into execution minutes only after verifying the actual billing rules.

Free monitoring and the production boundary

UptimeRobot Free advertises fifty monitors at five-minute intervals with personal/nonprofit positioning. Better Stack's personal free offer includes ten monitors/heartbeats, one status page and email/Slack alerts. A paid commercial, on-call requirement is not automatically eligible for a personal free tier. Confirm current use terms and permissions rather than choosing the largest free monitor count.

Free accounts can be useful for a permitted trial of a few endpoints. They are poor evidence for a production cost promise when the eventual requirement includes phone alerts, faster intervals, organization roles or branded external communication. A technically working free check does not show that its history, retention and team controls meet a contract or audit need.

What can make the lower package price wrong?

Start with the alert channel. If your response process requires a phone call to several countries, estimate how far UptimeRobot's included SMS/voice allowance goes and the cost of any extra credits and compare that complete bill with the responder offer. A €35 package plus unpredictable credit top-ups is not directly the same commitment as a $29 responder with a defined monitor pool. Do not claim a break-even without both a current credit quote and an explicit currency conversion.

Next count customers who need separate status pages. A consultancy with ten client-facing pages can incur page charges even with few technical checks. Conversely, one consolidated page may be enough for another company. Do not create ten pages for an arithmetic comparison if the actual service has one public status surface. Separate monitoring endpoints from communication domains and branding requirements.

Then inspect retention and export. A cheap plan is not eligible if the buyer needs a year of incident records and the selected package cannot supply them. SLA reporting is a report feature, not a guaranteed service-level outcome or legal defense. Vendor claims about uptime reporting do not establish your compliance with a customer contract.

Finally, budget overlap and migration. Existing probes, customer subscriptions to status updates, incident rules and on-call rotations need transfer. An alternative becomes economically attractive only when old costs can actually be retired. Rebuilding alert rules consumes labor even if the new package is cheaper. The cost-avoidance calculator can model your own implementation and recurring assumptions without inventing saved hours.

Pingdom: a quote control, not a fabricated third price

Pingdom remains a relevant incumbent for synthetic uptime and real-user monitoring. We could not reliably verify a current public monetary quote from its pricing interface during this pass. We therefore narrowed the published owner to a monitoring-specific UptimeRobot/Better Stack pair rather than reuse an old Pingdom starting price to manufacture a triple comparison.

Request a current Pingdom quote with the same monitor count, interval, status-page requirements and synthetic versus real-user scope. Record SMS credits, selected checks and contract length. A trial feature list is not a price and real-user page views are not uptime checks. Pingdom can still win a properly quoted requirement; affiliate readiness does not determine the shortlist.

Before buying: a short procurement worksheet

  1. Count active endpoints and heartbeat jobs, excluding planned duplicates.
  2. Set the maximum scheduled check interval and required regions.
  3. Count paid responders separately from viewers.
  4. Count public pages and specify custom-domain/white-label requirements.
  5. List required alert channels, destinations and likely incident volume.
  6. Separate browser journeys, logs and application traces from HTTP checks.
  7. Confirm retention, reporting and export requirements against the selected plan.
  8. Obtain the final same-market invoice quote, including taxes and renewal terms.

This page is pricing research, not a hands-on incident-response benchmark. We did not trigger outages, send alerts, subscribe users or measure notification latency. A limited, approved trial should verify the operational requirements before a long commitment. If all partner links disappeared, the workload boundaries and scenario arithmetic would remain unchanged.
